1.
worked on this one with Annalise but she never seemed very interested in finishing it. i really love the verses/prechorus but the chorus just doesn't hit right. i like the words, but it's too wordy. ideas?
2.
nice song. also worked on this one with Annalise who had nice backing vox at the time. it is pretty par for the course for me, for this type of song, but maybe the band could elevate it.
3.
this might be a contender for what i have been calling "low-hanging fruit" on an EP. i like the tune a lot, it has room for textures in the verse, but the chorus as it's written now is very closed off.
4.
hard to see how we would do this one and not ruin it by pushing the tempo but it's a nice and complete song. i think it might be nice to do without drums at all and maybe synth/pianos and stuff?
5.
don't be put off by the midi version. i have an acoustic demo too, but i changed the pace of chord changes on this version, and it's better. so just listen to the melody. i wouldn't consider this an immediate contender but could be a change of pace track on an EP. we never do slow songs. i think we could pull it off. i think the chorus is top notch.
6.
i wrote this for Annalise to sing. I think it's really great, but not sure I can pull it off vocal-wise. it might be fun for us to try, it's totally different than our usual fare.
7.
another version.
8.
i love this one, and it is fun to sing.
9.
outtake from our first record that prob should have made it! this one and "black eyes" are the Readership ones that got away.
10.
outtake from the first TJX EP, always a fan favorite though. I even played it live last show i did and people love this one.
11.
a clean sounding demo (with some out of tune guitars?). this song was cut from the first TJX EP and we never went back to it, even though we played it live often and even opened a number of sets with it. strong song IMO.
12.
one of my old songs with the classic goo goo dolls bridge. very typical chord progression for me but i think the melody is nice.
13.
we played this one at practice without matt. gabe called it ska-like, ha. it's got a big chorus with a nonsense word that i could never figure out what to replace it with in the chorus/title.
14.
one of many songs i wrote and recorded with Jon circa 2000-2002, and the chord progression is unremarkable but on revisiting these old songs i was digging the chorus, which is like pulled from ta chris isaak song.
